The acquisition of the frames was implemented remotely and this is the first light of IRIDA OBSERVATORY. The observatory consists of two 3m ScopeDomes, two equatorial mounts ASA DDM85 and two 12" Astrographs - Newton and RC optical systems. The observatory is operated by Emil Ivanov and Velimir Popov. This is a new project for remotely controlled observatory in collaboration with the INSTITUTE OF ASTRONOMY - ROZHEN NATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATORY - Bulgaria. NGC 410 is a dusty emission nebula located in the northern constellation Auriga. It is about 12000 light years distant and over 100 light-years across. Partly obscured by foreground dust, the nebula itself surrounds NGC 1893, a young cluster of stars. The open star cluster is believed to energizes the glowing gas surrounding nebulosity due it's violent outflow of stellar winds and radiation. On the upper left side of the image are two prominent filaments of glowing gas know as the "tadpoles" of IC410. The tadpoles have curved globular heads and tails generally point away from the open cluster as the shock wave of stellar winds pushes further from the source. The tadpoles are actually about 10 light-years long and are potential sites of star formation. |
