Sh2-227 in Auriga

This little-studied nebula is ionised by the O9 V star LS V +38 12. It appears behind the western edge of the Aur OB1 association in the outer galaxy (Avedisova, V. S. & Kondratenko, G. I.,1984). The estimated distance to the nebula is 4300 pc [Blitz, Fich, Stark 1982], or 3810 pc +/- 1000 [Avedisova, Kondratenko, 1984]. The open cluster right of the nebula is NGC 1857.
