VdB 43 is a small reflection nebula visible in the constellation Orion. The nebula is located about 20' in the direction of ENE from the star 32 Orionis (brightest star on the image). The star responsible for the lighting of VdB 43 is HD 36471, a blue-white star of the main sequence of spectral class B8V with an apparent magnitude of 8.70, completely enveloped by gas. The measurements of the parallax have provided a value of 2.90 to 3.00 mas, corresponding to a distance of about 330-345 parsecs (1086-1124 light-years). Thus the nebula would be in the same region of the Orion Arm, where are the largest molecular clouds of the Orion complex, which hosts intense phenomena of star formation.
