VdB 96 is a reflection nebula in the constellation Canis Major. It is part of the molecular cloud LDN 1660 and is mainly lit by HD 57281, a blue star of B5V class, which gives the surrounding gas a markedly bluish color. In the darkest part of the nebula there are active star formation phenomena, as evidenced by the presence of giant molecular jet HH72. This jet is made up of several components, the most obvious of which are called HH 72 A, B and C, and they are also visible in the band of visible light. A slightly larger field, including an open cluster NGC 2362 can be seen here .
